Re: 2016 Mets Season
Good outing by Matz. Wow, this team has a lot of power. Walker already has 7 homeruns. He hit 16 last season. This team has a good shortstop and a good 2nd baseman. Everyone is hitting except for Travis. Need him to start hitting. Mets are now 9-7 ( 3.5 game in 2nd ). Lets go Mets

Re: 2016 Mets Season
Don't know if you saw that strikeout for savings promo, for every pitcher strikeout on the road this trip they take 1% off the ticket price for the next homestand. I think they are up to about 52 with one more game to go. So you could get tickets for maybe 60% off after tomorrow. Fun way to get fans in the stands early in the season. LGM!

Mets sweep Atlanta, but now we have to worry about Familia. Something isn't right with him.

Too early to worry. Look at Melacon. He is also struggling.

Wow, what a great win. Huge pinch hit 3 run homerun by Cespedes in the 7th inning. Familia has been pitching better of late. 5 wins in a row. 12-7 record =)
Nats just lost. 2 games out =)

Another win by the Mets. That is 6 wins in a row. How about Neil Walker? Wow. He hit his 9th homerun this evening. That ties a team record for most homeruns in a month.
13-7 and now only 1 game out of First.

What a game! Mets have a new record for most runs in an inning, with 12 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The 5 walks in the inning didn't hurt! LGM!

7 wins in a row ( 14-7 )
13-1 win
Mets scored 12 runs in the 3rd inning. The most that they have ever scored in one inning. Cespedes had a grand slam and 6 rbis in that inning.

Re: 2016 Mets Season
Wooooooo! 8 in a row! What a great day at the ballpark! A lot of walks by Met pitching, but I don't know if it was bad calls by the ump, not good framing by Rivera, or if the guys just didn't have it today. Hard to tell from our seats, I'm going to have to check the replay or see what deGrom says. I did get my Noah garden gnome, and a lot of folks were disappointed they didn't get one. We were on line 40 minutes before the gates opened which is 2 hours before first pitch and the lines stretched into the parking lot. We also set an attendance record at Citifield!

Love Big Sexy! A strong outing for an old man, when the kids can't finish 6. I must say, he is fast off the mound as well. Going to see Harvey pitch tonight, hopefully he can get through a few more innings.

Re: 2016 Mets Season
Ugh, Harvey implodes in the middle innings again. Was at the game and he looked like he was turning it around in the first innings, but, again, can't get it together. The kid Wisler has the Mets number, 1 hit last night and he beat them a couple of times last year. Harvey doesn't know what's wrong, says he is going back to basics. How long do we have to wait? Yes, I am impatient, I want Verrett to pitch, he has done well.

Re: 2016 Mets Season
The Mets are way too reliant on the home run ball. It backfires when you play in a pitcher's ballpark such as PETCO Park in San Diego. There were a lot of fly ball outs that would have been home runs in, say, Philly. Since Monday, the Mets have scored 15 runs, 14 of which have scored on the long ball. Not a recipe for success if you ask me.

You've got a great point,Math.A baseball corollary that is set in stone is good pitching always shuts down good hitting. That kid Wisner (sp?) from Atlanta did it the other day.We have no speed at all, always going for the long ball.Could be a problem if people go into slumps.I miss Jose Reyes.A guy like that screws up the head of the opposing pitcher always stealing.Right now the opposing pitchers have no steal attempts to worry about.

Wow. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Bartolo Colon hit his 1st career homerun. It was a sight to see. Amazing what he is doing at 42 years old. Impressive.
Mets won so now they are 0.5 games behind the Nationals for 1st place.

Bartolo is just an amazing athlete, pitching better than Harvey, winning 3 games for us and hitting that home run.I thank our lucky stars that we signed him for this year.At this rate, I'd give him a 3 year contract! He is timeless.
Yep, Cubs are looking real tough beating the Nats. Can't wait for that showdown when we play the Nats!

Re: 2016 Mets Season
The Mets are 16-4 in games where they hit a home run, 4-8 in games where they do not hit a home run. This means that 80% of their wins are when they hit the long ball.
Flashback to 2011 when they were a classic small ball team in what was the last year that Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan were on the team. Reyes and Pagan had 39 and 32 stolen bases, respectively. Also keep in mind they also had current Dodger infielder Justin Turner, who filled in nicely at third base while David Wright was out for a couple of months.
While they finished the season 77-85, it can actually be accounted for the fact that the Mets did not have the best pitching as Santana missed the whole season due to his (first) shoulder surgery. After a 5-13 start, the small ball offense kicked into gear and by late June they were above .500. Unfortunately, they had to make some trades because the Phillies and Braves were very good at the time. (The Phillies remember had Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, who were brilliant that year and the Braves were very good only to choke the last couple of weeks of the year thanks to the late-season surge from the Cardinals, who went on to win the World Series that year in dramatic fashion). And also keep in mind that this was the last year before the second wild card was put into play. Knowing this, the Mets had to trade away pending free agents K-Rod and Beltran and the team was unable to continue the surge afterwards.
That year, 40 of their 77 wins (52%) occurred when they did NOT hit a home run. I would love to see the classic small ball return to this team, especially with the pitching staff they have now.
