I wonder the same thing doc, can they be pushing themselves in their training, or do we have an incompetent training staff? Nice to see a little spark with Reyes and Ruggino playing, maybe Cespedes will add a little too...

I had posted on this thread a while ago that being a Met fan since 1962, we get into the World Series on average every 15 years. That means 2030 is next,LOL.Read this article to support my claim. What was once a very bright future has now turned sour.

Re: 2016 Mets Season
It has generally been a rough second half for the Mets. Numerous injuries to players like Harvey, Cespedes, Lagares, and Cabrera have really plagued the Mets. And now we find out today that Steven Matz is headed for the DL for a shoulder injury. Yeah, it hasn’t been great. Although I did like what I saw the last two games, I am not at this point excited. I mean last Thursday, with deGrom on the mound, they had Madison Bumgarner on the ropes with the 4-0 lead and they gave it away. And on Friday, Seth Lugo (in place of Matz) pitched pretty well but they couldn’t get enough run support and they lost it in the 7th inning. Now Saturday and Sunday featured great outings from Colon and Syndergaard, respectively, and Cespedes has gotten it going. Of course, the Mets organization wants us to think that they’re making a push for the postseason. Now, if they want to convince me that they will indeed make a run, that they could obtain a wild-card spot (as the Mets are in no way catching the Nationals), that NEED to take of the Cardinals the next three games at Bush Stadium in St. Louis, a stadium they have not a won a series at since 2007. If they can’t beat them, I think I will probably bring out the white flag for the season. Since the All-Star break, I have been to three Mets games, all featuring brutal losses, one on Thursday July 28th against the Rockies where Familia blew a 1-0 lead in the 9th and lost 2-1 ( I was in section 112 for that game), one on Wednesday August 3rd at Yankee Stadium where the Mets were up 2-0 in the top of the 1st inning and had the bases loaded, and couldn’t add on and Steven Matz got lit up capped by a game winning 3-run homer by Tex. I was with me my Yankee fan friend (Janet you met him on July 1st at Citi Field). Finally, I went to the game on Friday, August 12th against the Padres where Logan Verrett gave up eight runs in less than three innings. Trailing 8-2 the Mets attempted a comeback in the 5th and 6th innings to cut it to 8-6 but got nothing else going and they lost by that score. Now at that game, there were thunderstorms were in the area and a rainbow formed in the second inning that I took a picture of:
Anyway, the bottom line is this: I’m on the brink of throwing in the towel on the 2016 Mets. To make things worse, Cespedes will probably opt out of the Mets and since the Nationals center fielder Ben Revere will likely not be with them next year, they will make a strong push to get Cespedes. Imagine having the Mets division rival having both Murphy AND Cespedes in the lineup, it would really rub salt in the wounds.

Well what do you know? I said the Mets needed to take care of the Cardinals and they won two out of three. This means that I will have at least another few stressful nights ahead watching the Mets...

LOL, Mikey, you brought the Mets luck posting here after your hiatus! Yes, critical series this was to stay alive.Don't like the fact the relievers almost coughed this one up but kudos to the hitters.Think Collins should give D'Aza more time, hes hot, and bench Curtis more, he's ice cold.

Watched two outstanding baseball games tues and weds night.I am proud to be a Fan of this team. They have GUTS.Despite all the injuries, the team finds a way to win.We are having a blast here in the hunt in September. What can you say about Bartolo but AMAZING!!! Kelly Johnson CLUTCH hit.Excellent move by Sandy picking up Kelly, we will need him after the devastating news on Walker. How about those kid pitchers coming through? Whatever happens, it is now a great time to enjoy the pennant race for that wild card slot.

They need to keep Kelly in the lineup, Bruce not producing, a waste. Bartolo has been the anchor this year!

Oy, Walker most likely having surgery for herniated disc. What the heck is going on with these kids needing surgery? Bad training methods?

Dunz, not ready to throw the towel in on Bruce. He had two nice hits yesterday and made a nice diving catch.Kelly is a lock at second.Wilmer is a valuable player can do any infield position.Think we can absorb the Walker loss.

Re: 2016 Mets Season
As nice as last night was with the way the Mets gained ground in the wild card, you wonder how long they can keep this up. I mean with Walker having season ending surgery, the Mets could very well regret trading away Dilson Herrera, especially if Jay Bruce continues to struggle and if Herrera, now with the Reds, feasts off Mets pitching next week when the Mets play in Cincinnati.
I know the Mets play a lot of losing teams down the stretch in the Reds, Braves, Twins, and Phillies (19 out of their last 29 games they play these teams). But the Mets have struggled against those teams all season. Look at how they got swept by the Braves and Diamondbacks at home. Also recall back in 2007, the Mets last 14 games were all against losing teams that year in the Nationals, Cardinals, and Marlins. And in that span, they went 5-8, ultimately missing the postseason.
Weather permitting, it would be nice if the Mets could close out the homestand on a high note with the last game of the 4-game Marlins series tonight and the three games vs the Nationals. It seems the question is not if Murphy can hit a home run but how many home runs will Murphy hit. He's hit 7 home runs in 13 games vs. the Mets this season.

Re: 2016 Mets Season
The Mets have won 12 out of their last 16 games. And it's all with deGrom and Matz hurt, as well as Harvey and Wheeler out. Gsellman and Lugo, both of whom I knew nothing about a few weeks ago, both beat the Nationals. Bartolo Colon gets his 13th win pitching six scoreless innings. They are now two back in the lost column for the wild card (held by the Giants and Cardinals). Of course, you wonder how long this can last. The league will probably adjust to the aforementioned young pitchers and hit off them soon. Also, a lot of "trap" games between the Braves, Phillies, and Twins. They better not take anything for granted.

Mets are on a hot streak
What a season for Bartolo Colon
13-7 3.22 era

Mets are now 72-66 and just 1 game behind the Cards and 1.5 behind the Giants for both wildcard spots.

Mets win 3-2 in 12 innings
They are now 10 games over .500 ( highest they have been this season )
Another great start by Lugo
What can you say about Grandy? Game tying hr and walk off hr. He is approaching 30 homers for the season
Mets are now tied with the Giants for the 1st wildcard =)

Re: 2016 Mets Season
This is turning out to be one of my favorite Mets team of all time since 1962.Even after the crippling losses of Harvey, now deGrom and the Matz and Wheeler situations, a 43 year old man and a couple of rookie kid pitchers have us in the thick of this pennant race.Good old "in the clutch" Curtis and the other players who never quit and keep on fighting, is a joy to behold!Gotta say Alderson made a brilliant trade getting Jose back. The guy is good luck and a spark plug and a joy to watch for us fans.

Really tough watching the Mets game tonight, Gary, Keith and Ron trying to hold it together. Can't imagine how the Marlins are going to get through this week...

That was an unbelievable show of emotion and sportsmanship. I was in tears for this poor kid watching that. So incredibly tragic

Re: 2016 Mets Season
Well, well, well! With everything wrong that happened, with all of the injuries, with all of the heartbreakers, with the way the Mets were 60-62 and 5.5 games out of the second wild card spot on the morning of August 20th, the Mets made a big run. They are 27-12 since then and they will now play the NL Wild Card game at Citi Field on Wednesday night. Right before they played the Cardinals for three games beginning August 23rd, I mentioned on this thread that I was on the brink of throwing in the towel on the Mets season and that I would do so if they lost two out of three games. They ended up winning three games, and they got stronger from there. There’s no telling as to who will be the NL manager of the year, but Terry Collins will be in the conversation. I mean players like Gsellman and Lugo, names I was not familiar with, who have taken the spots of Harvey, deGrom, and Matz, have done a great job keeping the Mets afloat. And Bartolo Colon got his 15th win today, which means that, including the postseason, he has been a 15-game winner in each of his three seasons with the Mets, not bad for a 43-year old!
All this being said, the WC game will be a tough one. Since the WC game’s inception in 2012, there have been nine one-game playoff games (one of them was a tie-breaker for the second wild card). The road team is 7-2 in those games. If the Mets face the SF Giants, they would likely face the great Madison Bumgarner, and even if he doesn’t start, they would have to face Johnny Cueto, who pitched a two-hit complete game against the Mets in the World Series last year. If they face the Cardinals, they would have to deal with the power threat even greater than that the Mets. Also, the Cardinals are the one team in the NL that has given Familia a lot of trouble. In the last two years, he has three blown saves against them, more than any other team in the league. But hopefully, the Mets fanbase does it’s work and cheers on the home team. And keep in mind, the winner of that game plays at Wrigley Field to face the Cubs on Friday. Of course, the Cubs are much better than any of the WC contenders. However, championship starved Cubs are going to be under so much pressure to win that you wonder if it will get to them.
A lot can happen within the next week, but for now, LET’S GO METS!!!!!

I have enjoyed this season in particular for the gutsy never say die performances of this team.Guys like Lugo, Gsellman and the other worldly Bartolo Colon have been amazing.Jay Bruce clicked in just in time and you have to tip your hat to Collins for finding the right way to deal with Bruce's horrible slump. Now there is some momentum here and I see great chemistry in that clubhouse.I'm praying that the WCG will be St Louis so we can avenge the 2006 post game series by knocking the Cards out of this thing.Whatever happens, it's been an incredible season and the pieces are all there for a World Series return in 2017 with our young pitchers patched up and healthy.

You know about the SI jinx right? Three Met pitchers were on the cover last March. Two of them, Harvey and deGrom, had season ending injuries. The other was Familia. I have been waiting for a while for that fateful moment for Familia and it finally happened tonight. And we knew very well that Madison Bumgarner was going to be Madison Bumgarner, which he was. Well, this sucks...

Re: 2016 Mets Season
Mikey and Janet, NOTHING to be sad at or regretful about. We fielded our A Team and our best pitchers and just got beat by an incredible pitcher Bum garner. You have to tip your hat. There is a lot to be proud of this season, the rookie kid pitchers, Colon, the return of Jose and a never say die spirit. We made it to the playoffs with our starting staff decimated. As the old Brooklyn Dodgers would say..."wait until next year!". We will have our aces back healthy and maybe Cespedes and Jose as well as Walker will return.A healthy Lucas Duda and David Wright as well.
Now I'm gonna root for the Cubbies, it's been very long since they have been in a World Series.Lot's of great baseball to watch with these playoff games coming!
