Re: 2014 Mets
Read an article in the Bergen Record that now that Bobby Parnell is healthy again, he is going to get the closer spot.I say horsedung!Parnell is not the closer that Mejia is.I can see making Parnell a 7th inning guy behind Familia and Mejia and let's see how he handles it.Mejia stated he would do anything the team wants, real class.Collins wants Parnell as the closer. I want Bachmann as manager,LOL!

Re: 2014 Mets
Hey Doc, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year.
I agree, always thought Mejia would make a good closer or bullpen pitcher. Yeah Parnell, give us a complete season without getting injured then we can talk.
I like what the Mets have done with their pitching staff but we've spoken about this in the past, I would look to trade someone. Perhaps Gee for shortstop or another outfielder with some pop. Mayberry will be good off the bench, but that's not enough. Would also like to see a back up catcher.
What are they going to do with Murphy? It's his contract year isn't it? Sign or trade him. Hope they don't pull the same crap that they did with Reyes and watch him walk.
Cheers, Nofo

Re: 2014 Mets
Nofo, so great to hear from you and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Right about Parnell, let him prove he can earn the closer spot by staying healthy and being effective.Personally, I've seen parnell at his so called best and Mejia is a better closer.
Definitely trade Gee or Niese for someone with pop.I can live with Flores as he hits ok but we need BIG guns to produce runs.
Murphy after last year deserves a contract.Guess I am biased because I love his dedication and work ethic even though he can make some bonehead moves at times. If they can get a power hitting second baseman who can field, well, that would be it for Murphy.
Miss baseball very much already, but fishing even more,LOL!

Re: 2014 Mets
There are some grumblings about a Tulowitski trade for Syndegaard. Not sure if it's bs, but I'd be on board. Syndegaard is unproven in the major leagues and as we mentioned, they are stockpiled with pitching right now.

Could be the Gary Carter type of move that would make them a contender. My only worry with Tulowitski is his injury record. You know what will happen when we get him.Bad enought we have Wright and Cuddyer, other injury prone players.

Doc, that's true about the injuries. The team needs a lethal batter (we've been saying this ad nauseum for how many years?), something they thought they would get with Bay and Granderson to a lesser extent. I would roll the dice with Tulo, can't be any worse then they started.

Mets only move this offseason has been Cuddyer, right? Very quiet

Isles look gooooood. But like a Mets fan, nothing personal, I will reserve judgment until we get to Feb/March

So far that's it, Frank.I read they were waiting for all the big starting pitchers to be traded before they try to deal. They are sniffing around Tulowitski.

And Mayberry, journeyman outfielder, good for the bench.

Absolutely right, I don't get excited with fast starts either but I do like that they are aggressive in the opponent's zone and they're protecting the goalie who by the way was a terrific pick up.

Doc, any chance we get a shot at a trade for a shortstop?

Re: 2014 Mets
Hi, Nofo, hope the winter is going well for you.
This has been the ongoing mystery with the Mets, what to do at shortstop.Since they haven't traded, I'm thinking they go with Flores with Tejada as backup.I think there is another great rookie ss in the farm club.Would like to see them trade for a good consistent 300 hitter in the outfield.Willing to let go of Niese or Gee for that.
Couple of weeks to pitchers and catchers!

Re: 2014 Mets
Doing quite well Doc thanks. Hope you are well too.
Mystery is a good way to put it, we'll see what happens with Flores. If I never saw Tejada in a Mets uniform again it would be too soon.
I'm still wondering what they plan to do with Murphy? Sign him to long term, trade him or let him walk like Reyes.

Re: 2014 Mets
All is well, Nofo, thanks for asking.
Good question about Murphy. If they were going to trade him, now's the time with his value so high.Isn't there a great second baseman prospect in the farm club?Right about Tejada.Had his chance and he fumbles the ball.Collins was very patient with him.

Re: 2014 Mets
I don't remember if I mentioned this, but I am organizing a group outing to Citifield on June 28th @ 1:00 against the lowly Reds. Tickets are $41.25 and are in the first level left field a few rows back under the overhang. No worries if it rains or is too hot. It is also right near the food concessions. You get a Mike Piazza jersey shirt, and it is Family Fun Sunday with fun stuff for the kids including running the bases after the game. I am taking reservations now, money is due in April. The team is taking shape and will soon take over NY. LGM!
