Re: 2014 Mets
As long as it looks like they are going in the right direction and have some improvement, I'll be happy....going to take years to be in any contention. But I have my Opening Day tickets! Now I just need a decent weather day!

Re: 2014 Mets
Just read the sad news that Ralph Kiner has passed away at 91.He was a great ballplayer and a great broadcaster. All Met Fans will remember Kiner's Korner.
I have missed Ralph in the booth these past few years. While Gary, Kieth and Ron are excellent, Ralph had the stories from the 30's,40's and 50's that these guys are too young to remember.
RIP Ralph....you are and will be missed.

Hey doc, I heard him do a few innings this past season, so good to hear the stories again. His speech was slow but his mind was still sharp!

Re: 2014 Mets
Hey,Janet.
I'll miss Ralph's great commentary about the Golden Age of baseball.
"Tinkers, to Evers, to Chance",LOL!
Read once that Ralph hit 51 homers in '50 or '51 and the Pirates management forced him to take a pay cut, because the Pirates finished LAST! I wonder how Ralph felt about these marginal baseball players today making 5 million a year.Ralph would have gotten 10 mil a year with those 51 homers.
Also on a sad note, Tim McCarver retired.Loved him when he was with the Mets.He has an amazing baseball mind. You really learned listening to him.

Haven't caught up on this side of the chat in a while:
Yes, rest in peace Mr. Kiner. He was a wealth of knowledge and I too enjoyed listening and watching him. I'm too young to have seen him play ball but I imagine it was quite a treat.

Re: 2014 Mets
Just needed a break from this cold weather.
Read some good news concerning the Mets. This kid Syndegaard pitched some amazing innings.Struck out Jeyson Heyward with some mean heat.Get out the Chalula Hot Sauce as keith would say. Also, Grandy blasted out a couple of long home runs.Neise looks to be OK to start, but Wheeler had a great few innings in there as well.Harvey progressing rapidly in his re-hab and there is talk he may come back before the season is out.
Just hoping these knucklehead Wilpons will spend some money. We need a good shortstop.Tejada is marginal at best, he's already injured.Just sign Stephen Drew and then this team at least has a chance for a better season.

I could go into an hour long monologue discussing the Wilpons and their inability to run a 'competitive' major league organization, but I'll save it. That said, I too am looking forward to watching Syndegaard pitch.

Re: 2014 Mets
One game into the new season and trouble appears.Parnell, a slightly above average relief pitcher is on the 15 day DL.The rest of the NL teams will go through the rest of our bullpen like crap through a goose.
Big mouth Alderson just HJ
AD to shoot off about winning 90 games. Now, the rest of the division is pissed off and will be fired up to beat us.All he had to say was "We are continually improving the ballclub and hope to have a much better season this year."

Re: 2014 Mets
31 strikeouts in two games.Ties a record going back TO 1914, fer crying out loud!I'd be ripping that batting coach a new one today.Colon pitched great for an old timer and all these guys could do was strikeout.Bodes ill for that 90 win season Alderson.I'd have these guys doing hours extra batting practice but I guess that's not in their union contract,LOL!

Re: 2014 Mets
Lack of power in the outfeld, first baseman by committee, a weak shortstop and lack of a decent bullpen, the scale is tilting in the wrong direction. The team had needs during the off season and they rested on their laurels of the personnel being able to compete. And as we said, they're inadequate in too many positions. And now the son's of bees have the audacity to put the onus on the fans to get the team off the ground???

Re: 2014 Mets
Ugly game today...Wheeler threw 108 pitches in 6 innings....not good (although his fastball was smokin')...and of course the bullpen imploded...

Re: 2014 Mets
I think the starting pitching has been terrific the past couple of years, but when they turn it over to the bullpen, all bets are off. I definitely see something special with Wheeler. Hopefully they don't rush Harvey back too soon and hopefully he's close 100%.

Re: 2014 Mets
I just am concerned about leaving the starters throwing too many pitches and only going 6 innings...with our bullpen, we really need them to go 8 and keep their pitch counts down...

You've summed it up in a nutshell.A blind man can see it, but not Alderson.
Love that article how he backpedals on that 90 game as " an internal challange and not a prediction." What a load of horse dung. The other teams in our division heard it and will bne pissed and play EXTRA hard to teach the Mets a lesson.

Mets Fan = PAINFUL SEASON! They do not have it from top to bottom in the organization at this point. What a crock of bs that article is nofo and Doc you hit the nail right on the head.

It's always a painful season! lol When things go right, we are always waiting for the other shoe to drop! But then again, we were playing the Nationals, slated to be the winners of the division...

Mugsy's right, it is painful and I am the KING of pain being a fan since 1962.However, after years of mediocrity, you get rewarded in years like '69 and'86. "When you're a Met you're a Met all the way from your first cigarette til your last dying day.....!"

2 down 88 to go.....As long as Collins doesn't put Lannan in, we might be ok...and the last time the Mets had a pinch-hit walk-off grand slam was in 1986.... just saying!
