good heavy rate falling now. best it's snowed since 8am before the sleet change

The one thing that surprised me was how fine the snow is. I went out this morning and it looked like somebody has poured sugar all over my porch.

Still snowing in Hackettstown. My neighbor finished snowblowing an hour ago and now it looks like he never touched it. Wind sleet snow....interesting and exciting storm to follow!

Did Hackettstown get at least 12 inches of snow? I don't wanna hear crap from work.

Man, you got that right. For us older guys, take your time. It's miserable out and trying to shovel this slop is akin to weightlifting. It's a real widowmaker.  

Its like cement. Just cuz sleet doesn't pile up to 2 ft+ like snow, its the same weight in those 10" or how ever much it is. I had to take a break.

Some people are ruthless

ppl are frustrated and have a right to be.....hype hype hype and dont receive the goods time after time...

It's not about building hype only to "not receive the goods". People have livelihoods to maintain. Businesses to run. Jobs to attend. Those that are disrupted and feel they could have carried on  with their lives due to an incorrect forecast would be more validated in lashing out. But typically these same individuals don't respect the power of Mother Nature and probably don't take it serious when something big does occur. Better safe than sorry - I prefer to err on the side of caution. I respect meteorology and our forecasters because outside of the fun and excitement inclement weather provides, their goal is to keep us as safe and informed as possible, as difficult as it may be at times. Keep up the good work forecasters of this forum.

Sorry for banter lol - still pouring sleet in Midtown. Certainly glad I didn't take the commute to work today.

Ryan, how much snow do you have and how much are you expecting up in NH?

Actually, I can not complain here in NW essex county. With this last band coming thru i will be at the 10 to 12 in mark. Had true Blizzard conditions for like 2 hours, visibility was down below 1/4 practically the whole storm. down to 300 feet for 2 hours.

I can't even do an accurate measurement with the constant back and forth between sleet and snow, but as this last band ends I suspect I'll end up with 6-7" snow and 2-3" sleet.

Moderate snow sleet here now last hurrah!

crippo84, your 100% right. So who cares if you err on the side of safety. It is the best way to be. I bet someone would have been seriously injured at the height of this storm at any given point across the region. I had S++ for 1.5 hours, visibility less than 200 or 300 ft with high winds gusting to 45 mph. Can u imagine if we had a road full of vehicles at that point in time?
