Feb 28th - record low/ high temps & wind chills

We need to report that last day of Feb temps!

CP NYC goes after a record low/ high of 21 set in Drum roll please ..............................

1875!! the year my great great grandfather Alberto Guiseppe Mugno 15 years old married his 13 year old love of his life   - no shit - today that is called  sick and 5-10 in the pen!

I thought this was a thread to record low temperatures. Maybe you should change the name Mugs.

Anyway if we're talking grandfathers here my grandfather Ernesto Ruocco, came to this country at age 2 in 1899 which of course we all know was the year of the great blizzard of 1899. Northern New Jersey the Hudson Valley and parts of Connecticut, and parts of Long Island, were buried in 2 to 3 feet of snow. There were 16 inches recorded in Central Park, which at the time made it the third-largest snowfall ever. On the current list it has dropped all the way to 17th.

That was also the storm Tom was talking about the other day that actually brought snow to Pensacola Florida Mobile Alabama and for a short time blizzard conditions to the West Coast of Florida. As Tom pointed out that had to be the mother and the classic track of all Miller A's.

Back to temperatures.

17.8° now and dropping fairly rapidly. I'm very disgusted with my finish this morning and I mean business. I'm predicting -7 tomorrow, put that in your pipe and smoke it snowman.

I'm even challenging you katzcar, JimV and Hyde, you too Circleville. I will not be denied tomorrow morning.

I'd challenge you Doc, and you two mugs, but it wouldn't be a fair fight.

I've already got a head start on you. I'm down to 12* and when that wind dies down later that temps going to plummet. We'll see who the last man standing will be.   

I've dropped down to 11*. I'm going to crush you like a bug. lol.

You had a head start and I am slowly and steadily making up the difference.

This is the story of the rabbit and the tortoise. You started off quickly, but like the rabbit you will run out of steam and fall to the side of the road.

Like the tortoise I will continue the slow, steady, slide below zero and ultimately win the contest.

I just heard a thud was that  the 18 wheeler running over the tortoise or the rabbit crossing the road?

Only when the sun comes up will we see for sure who it was.

I assure you mugs it's not tortoise soup, that thud you heard was rabbit stew.

Cp do you hear that pitter patter in the distance, that's me leaving you in the dust. I'm already down to 3* and falling rapidly. Plus the wind is calming down. It's like Leona Helmsley said "I CRUSH NUTS" !!!

It reminds me of the old Bugs Bunny cartoons where he's in the big black pot with the natives dancing around him, but he would always talk his way out it. Ah, but for you there is no way out.

Circleville is CP cousin - who is he kiddin' I think he put dry ice under his thermometer this morning!!

Anyway Bugs Bunny was a staple as a kid growing up on Saturday mornings with his good friends - Sylveter and Tweety bird, Loghorn foghorn and (?) Sam!

Okay my thermometer read 3.3* this morning at 4;27Am then went to three dashes---??? It is done with winter - I am going to have to smack it around cause we have a few more weeks left!

Oh and the NY City forecast high is 21* (Bill said 19* on the radio)which is the record low/high for this date in 1875!!

It's going to be like the scene in Striking Distance if I beat Cp's low temp today. You know the scene towards the end where the supposedly dead cop has got Bruce Willis tied to a chair and he's beating on his chest yelling WHO'S THE BEST COP NOW ! WHO'S THE BEST COP NOW ! Picture me doing the same thing except I'll be yelling WHO'S GOT THE LOW TEMPERATURE NOW ! WHO'S GOT LOW TEMPERATURE NOW !

Okay snowman, I am now logged on and posting my official low for the morning of 1.1° above zero, but I am not admitting defeat.

There are two things in play here,

1. There is obviously something wrong with my thermometer, and I'm taking it in to be checked today.

2. Your thermometer is obviously on some kind of PED, or artificial refrigerant. I checked the mesonet observations and I don't see any minus fives in your area. I'm going to need a picture of this so-called -5 reading. And I'm going to need a sample of your thermometers sensors.

I'm not accusing you of cheating, but let's face it when a thermometer starts producing readings that no other thermometers in the same area are capable of producing something doesn't smell right. Maybe the sensor made a little trip to the downstairs freezer this morning?

Despite the alleged -5 degree cold I sense you sweating snowman, am I getting a little too close to a subject you don't want to discuss?

A hearing with Commissioner a mugs, will be scheduled next week. Maybe it's time to make a call to Joe Tacopina or Alan Dershowitz.
