Re: Record Cold Temperatures Early Next Week
Wow, January in November! That's very cold for this early in the season. Also noticing possible snow showers Sat night and Sunday. That should add to the wintery feeling. Great way to get into the Holiday spirit!
Glad I finished my getting the leaves cleared off my property yesterday, today it's raining lightly and the cold and wind would be rough! No more yard work until April!!!!!

Re: Record Cold Temperatures Early Next Week
I suppose for the urban areas that's pretty cold for this time of year but anyone 35 miles or more outside the city including some of eastern LI has already seen teens this year. Here in the HV we've seen several mornings now below 20.docstox12 wrote:Wow, January in November! Thursday morning was the heat island at it's worst. Sussex, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie were all 16-18 degrees, we bottomed at 16.5 in Highland Mills, the city bottomed at 37.

From the 00GFS - just found this from another site - if this verifies it is going to be cold for a while. Read too that anoterh artic shot is coming in behind the storm for the Tday weeeknd - any one else see this? How much faith is put into the temp chart?

I think we stay in the upper 20s on Sunday (maybe a couple 30 or 31s) ..22-27 in the HV/NWNJ. Then for Monday morn lows.. 20 for nyc and the east end of LI...mid and upper teens outside the city. Around 7-14 in the hudson valley NW NJ (colder temps north/warmer south)

Re: Record Cold Temperatures Early Next Week
This air mass is super cold. Ace imagine if the winds were calm...I bet the northern HV and areas around Westhampton Beach would be near 5 and many areas outside the city and urban NJ/LI in the single digits...and low and mid teen elsewhere. But that's neither near nor there. Enough wind will not allow for maximal radiational cooling.

Re: Record Cold Temperatures Early Next Week
Absolutely. 850's are going to be down right frigid around -18 Celsius. Temps with calm winds and zero cloud cover would be crazy. Though it will feel like it anyway with the 20mph+ winds we will see tomorrow.Noreaster wrote:This air mass is super cold. Winds will die down after midnight tomorrow night, some places within 50 miles of NYC will see single digits by Monday morning, IMO.Noreaster wrote:Yea and I think we might see min maxes in the low 30s bc at midnight we still will be dropping. So now im not so sure about the min. max records

NYC will not break that because as you stated the high for the day will be last nights midnight reading of 31. To bad becasue I think NYC will top out at 28-29 today.
Poughkeepsie will definitely break it, their midnight temp of 27 will be the high for the day. They probably won't crack 25 this afternoon.
Newark, Laguardia and JFK all seem like locks, Islip, Bridgeport and Danbury the same, White plains probably too. We'll know by 4pm.
20.5 right now in Highland Mils, low of 17.8 this morning, still not the lowest of the season, when winds die down after midnight tonight I think we see 7-10 around here tomorrow morning.
